The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation’s mission is to partner with the fire service and burn care community to provide fire safety and prevention education, support medical facilities and assist burn survivors in their recovery needs your help. The foundation raises most of its money through boot drives by firefighters state wide, but due to the economic downturn they were unable to raise enough money this year to add additional programs. The foundation would like to establish an International week-long summer camp in Atlanta for children that are burn survivors.  It will be the first camp of it’s kind, and will be in September 2010.  Camp Mai Soli, which means “never alone” in Italian, will provide numerous summer activities as well as give the children an opportunity to encounter equality and peer development through various programs.   Approximately $25,000- $35,000 is needed to make this inaugural year of camp happen for these children.  The monies raised will give roughly 60-100 children, counselors and staff an opportunity to attend  Camp Mai Soli.  For more information, contact Jeremy Ratner, a firefighter for the City of Atlanta and resident of Cherokee County, at 678-521-2700 or jtratner@AtlantaGa.Gov.  You can find more information about what the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation has to offer at www.gfbf.org.
